Victorian North Oxford: Suburban Paradise

Victorian North Oxford: Suburban Paradise, presented by Malcolm Graham, is our talk at Exeter Hall, Kidlington, at 8pm on 24 February. Doors open at 7.15pm for tea and coffee, and genealogy help.

Malcolm says:
North Oxford is one of Britain’s best known Victorian suburbs, carefully developed by St John’s College from the 1860s after an uncertain start. By tradition, married dons setting up home away from their colleges provided the main impetus for the suburb, but they only arrived in any number when the development was well under way, and many other groups also found North Oxford appealing. This talk will look at the growth of the suburb, and explore what life was like in an area which was never quite as exclusive as others thought!

All are warmly welcome!
