James Upstone

My Great Great Grandfather James UPSTONE (b.1818-d.1898) was Parish Clerk at St John Baptist Summertown for nearly 50 years. I have photographs of some of his children, but not of him. He married Nancy Mathers SMITH daughter of John Smith and Henrietta Venables, Botley Tollgate. James was illegitimate to Bliss Upstone of Stanton Harcourt. Sadly St John The Baptist was demolished. I don’t think the graves were removed. A block of flats now stands on the site. There isn’t much history on St John Baptist. I have tried to find more without success. I hope one day someone will be able to add to what I know. James also had a Compositers Printers in Queen Street.This eventually sold to cinema as in wills.
