Meetings

Monthly meetings

OFHS meetings in Kidlington consist of talks to members, covering subjects based on how to discover our ancestors and the world they lived in. These talks take place every month except for August and December, usually, on the fourth Monday of the month. They start at 8.00 p.m. but the hall is open from 7.15 p.m.

There are advisors present who can help those working on their family trees. There are also some books and CDs for sale. Refreshments are provided. Non-members are welcome but are asked to make a payment of two pounds.

Reports of some past meetings can be found in the Members’ area Some will have links to places described in the talks.

All talks since July 2020 have been held using Zoom. The recordings of most of these will be found in the Members’ area. In person talks in Kidlington start again on 25 April 2022.

Online Meetings Group

There is also a second set of meetings which take place online using Zoom on the second Monday of the month. These vary between meetings when individual members make contributions and more formal meetings when an outside speaker gives the talk.

Unlike meetings in Exeter Hall, there are no formal advisors present. However, thereĀ  are usually a number of ‘break out rooms’ before the talk where a member leads a discussion on a particular topic. All those in that ‘break out room’ can contribute to the discussion if they wish.

We do ask that members who have a particular interest which they can speak about come forward and volunteer to speak.
