Europeana event - in Somerville College, Oxford, Saturday 15 November

Oxfordshire FHS volunteers are helping at this Europeana event – in Somerville College, Oxford.

On Saturday November 15th 2014 Somerville College will be holding a Great War Roadshow where we are asking people to bring in in any World War One memorabilia, photos, letters, postcards etc for a major community archiving and digitisation project. We will have WW1 experts on hand to talk to you about your items and we will scan, photograph or record your items and stories to upload to an international archive called Europeana 1914-18 www.europeana1914-1918.eu/en . Europeana 1914-19 will preserve the digitised items for posterity and make them available online so that future generations of researchers (professional, academic and amateur
family historians) will have access to the vast range of material that currently resides in people’s cupboards, attics and desk drawers!

We have teams of experts and volunteers lined up for the day but what we need now is your contributions! Do come along and meet the team and bring along your items and stories from World War One. There will also be an exhibition of Somerville in the Great War, Vera Brittain and Testament of Youth and stands from local, military & family history associations.

The team say: We look forward to seeing you there! It would be helpful to us if you could contact Alex on communications@some.ox.ac.uk to make an appointment but you are also welcome to turn up on the day.
