If you are planning to enter our competition, please try and do so as it closes in less than a week.
The tests are Y-67 – worth over £215 each. You do not need to be a member of OFHS to enter.
If you are a male with strong Oxfordshire ancestry on your pure male line (father’s father’s father’s… – your surname line) or a woman who can persuade a brother/male cousin/father to take the test, then please enter our competition.
Write a few paragraphs on your Oxfordshire ancestry on your male line; describe why a test would be useful to you and provide all your contact details. Send to dna@ofhs.uk before Thursday 15th June.

Patricia,
It may be that you missed some of the communication on our projects. The DNA competition is for males as we are trying to get DNA we can use to trace surname lines, but the overall DNA project also welcomes autosomal DNA and mitochondrial DNA tests from people who have Oxfordshire ancestors going back before 1880. If that fits your mother’s family profile we are happy to have her join by transferring her Ancestry DNA test to our project. See https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer
The initial transfer is free, but you may need to upgrade to get everything FTDNA (FamilyTreeDNA) can offer.
Once you have your test on FTDNA then sign on with your ID and password and go to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/oxfordshire and click on the ‘join’ tab to join the Oxfordshire project.
I hope this helps.
Janet – thank you for your entry. I will contact you offline.

I have two lines of Oxfordshire ancestry including my father’s paternal line who I can track back to Adderbury from the early 19th century. My GGG grandfather, Joseph Giles, was born there is 1809 and is the son of Thomas and Sarah. There are too many Thomas Giles’s in the area to pinpoint who is Joseph’s father, so a DNA test might help to break down this brick wall or give an indication of the original of the family prior to them arriving in Adderbury. My brother has agreed to take the test if I am successful in the competition
I thought I did leave comment.

I am afraid so few people have that all-male Oxfordshire that you aren’t going to get many to take part. We have Oxfordshire blood through my mother’s line so I cannot take part. You are not going to have many people, which is a shame. My mother is doing her ancestry through Ancestry DNA now and I would otherwise share this info with you but it appears you are not interested in the matrilineal DNA.
