AGM followed by From One House to Another

at Exeter Hall, Kidlington

The AGM will start at 8.00 p.m. and as soon as it ends will be followed by this talk by Alan Simpson.

In this talk, the speaker explores the genealogy of a family who briefly lived at Forest Farm, Shotover (where he now lives) around 100 years ago, and some of whom now live in a slightly larger house elsewhere. On the way we meet some colourful characters and wander around various parts of Oxfordshire and beyond, employing both OFHS and on-line resources.

Alan Simpson is a retired electronic and software engineer. After gaining a D.Phil. in physical chemistry from Oxford University, he spent most of his working life with Oxford Instruments, designing instruments for scientists. Alan hated history at school but with advancing years developed an interest in the history of his own and his wife’s families. The results may be seen on his web site On retiring, Alan joined Oxfordshire Family History Society and has been involved in many projects with the society. He currently operates the Search Service on behalf of the society and co-ordinates the recording of the county’s Monumental Inscriptions. In the summer months he is often to be found lying in the long grass of a churchyard peering intently at a crumbling gravestone.

The hall will be open from 7.15 p.m. for refreshments, to browse books and to consult advisors about family history problems. Non-members can attend but there will be a small charge of £2 per head towards the society’s expenses. They will also not be able to vote at the AGM
