A 17th-century Christmas

Bring in the Boar's Head [Illustrated London News]

by Tim Healey; this talk commences at 8:00pm.

This talk shows a vibrant portrait of Christmas in a turbulent age, describing Lords of Misrule, Twelfth Night revels, wassails, Boar’s Head feasts, frost fairs on the frozen Thames – and the Puritan ban on Christmas itself.

Tim Healey is a writer and broadcaster who has presented many programmes on BBC Radio 3 and 4. He is a frequent contributor to the Oxford Times colour magazine, Oxfordshire Limited Edition, and leads the 17th-century costume band, the Oxford Waits.

This talk will take place using Zoom but there will be no recording available for members after the talk has taken place.
